AT-KABUL: The High Peace Council has hailed Turkmenistan and China for their cooperation offers in the Afghan-led peace process.

The two neighboring countries have said they would prepare facilities of talks between the government of Afghanistan and Taliban militants, though remaining impartial in the process.

China and Turkmenistan are feeling terrorism threats along their borders with Afghanistan, thus, they express readiness to help the Afghan peace process, the council said Wednesday.

It added that Beijing and Ashgabat could play good mediators in the Afghan government’s peace talks with the Taliban, if they would not have their own agendas.

“I am sure these countries (China and Turkmenistan) can pay the ground for the peace talks, because they are good places for work. If they will not have their own agendas, they will be good hosts,” said Azizullah Din Mohammad, the council’s deputy chief.

Turkmen President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, said Monday during a visit to Uzbekistan that Ashgabat was ready for an impartial mediation between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

He stressed that both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan consider peace and stability in Afghanistan in the benefit of the entire region.

Meanwhile, Wei Fenghe, Chinese Defense Minister, said Tuesday at the session of defense ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries that his country would be interested to play an “impartial mediator” between Afghan government and Taliban.

Spokesman for the Peace Council, said the council would hold peace talks with Taliban militants in any part of the world that the insurgents want.

Ehsan Taheri, called the offers from China and Turkmenistan as part of the regional consensus.

President Ashraf Ghani had earlier declared that his administration would hold “unconditional” talks with the Taliban, while the militants have not yet officially responded.
