Taliban ban all political parties in Afghanistan

AT News

KABUL – In a move announced on Wednesday, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has officially prohibited the activities of any political parties within Afghanistan.

Minister of Justice in the Taliban government, Abdul Hakim Sharaee, told a press conference in Kabul that political parties do not align with the people’s interests and lack a legitimate basis, particularly within the framework of Sharia law.

Sharaee emphasized that the absence of a Sharia basis makes the continuation of political parties unnecessary and counterproductive. He asserted, “Political parties lack a Sharia basis and fail to serve the nation’s interests. History has demonstrated that the country’s political unrest can be attributed to these parties.”

This decision marks a significant shift as Afghanistan, under previous governance, accommodated multiple noteworthy political parties that played roles in three separate presidential elections since 2001.
