KABUL – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran is ready to work with Kabul in an “environment of understanding” to address bilateral issues, during a meeting with Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, at the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025.
Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to helping the Afghan people and called for unity among Islamic nations, saying disputes must be replaced with brotherhood and cohesion. Muttaqi praised Iran as a trustworthy neighbor and highlighted shared cultural and religious values, as well as joint regional stances.
He said Afghanistan now has a central government with ethnic harmony, and is committed to regional cooperation—especially with Iran. He also noted the $3 billion trade volume between the two countries and expressed hope to expand economic ties and use Afghanistan’s stability to promote regional trade and transit.
Muttaqi thanked Iran for hosting Afghan refugees and said efforts are underway for their gradual repatriation.
