AT Monitoring Desk-Less than a dozen law makers were present in Monday’s general session of the Lower House of Parliament amid heightening criticism and a heated election campaign.

Some lawmakers criticized other members of the house for constant absenteeism for attending to their election campaigning. They asserted that fewer than 20 lawmakers 249 participate in the general sessions in the campaign season, Zamannews reported.

Prominent parliament member Ramazan Bashardost contended that the absence of lawmakers in today’s panel was ‘a staggeringly alarming issue’ and an affront to the house of the people. He, who was speaking in the parliament, urged that the absent MPs must be stripped of their concessions.

Parliament Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi asserted that some lawmakers refrain from attending the general session of the parliament even though it is held only once a week.

The session discussed the upcoming elections and controversies surrounding the Independent Election Commission. Members urged people to be cautious in casting their votes in favor of particular candidates.

A member of parliament, Abdul Satar Darzabi, argued that the candidates lure people to cast their votes in their favor. He said people should refrain from voting to anyone on the basis of ethnicity as it would befit their personal interests.

MP Ghulam Farooq Majrooh, who spoke in the general session, said that necessary measures should be adopted to ensure transparent, inclusive and fair election. He asserted that both election panels including the election and complaints commissions should remove any deterrence to the vote before October 20th.
