KABUL – Afghanistan has assured China that no group or force will be allowed to use Afghan territory to threaten Beijing, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said Wednesday following high-level talks in the Chinese capital.
Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, reaffirmed Kabul’s commitment to regional security and emphasized deeper cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.
“Afghanistan will not permit any activities from its territory that endanger neighboring countries, including China,” said ministry spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad. He added that Muttaqi expressed Kabul’s readiness to strengthen bilateral security ties, combat violent crimes, and safeguard Chinese interests in Afghanistan.
Reiterating Afghanistan’s support for the “One China” policy, Muttaqi voiced opposition to foreign interference in China’s internal affairs and highlighted the value Afghanistan places on its relations with Beijing.
In response, Wang Yi pledged continued Chinese support for Afghanistan’s interim government, saying Beijing will assist Kabul in fighting terrorism and achieving lasting peace.
“China respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty and the choices of its people,” Wang said, emphasizing that China seeks no influence or personal gain in the country.
Wang also outlined plans to expand cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, poverty alleviation, health care, and law enforcement.
