KABUL – The Afghan Taliban interim administration has dismissed a U.S. report claiming the presence of ISIS/Daesh and other militant groups in Afghanistan.
Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat rejected the findings of the U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), insisting that ISIS has been “suppressed” in the country, according to Tolo News.
“Expressing concerns about ISIS activities is essentially a ‘campaign’ in favor of the group,” Fitrat stated.
The SIGAR report warned that militant groups, including ISIS, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Al-Qaeda, continue to operate in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has also accused Kabul of harboring TTP militants who allegedly launch attacks inside Pakistan—an allegation the Taliban denies.
Last month, Fitrat countered by claiming Islamabad harbors ISIS militants, a charge Pakistan dismissed as “propaganda.”
