Britain Proposes £10 Billion Plan to Deport 600,000 Asylum Seekers, Including to Afghanistan

KABUL – Reform UK has unveiled a controversial immigration policy proposing the deportation of up to 600,000 asylum seekers, including to Afghanistan, if the party gains power in the upcoming UK general election.

The plan, dubbed “Operation Restoring Justice,” was announced today by party leader Nigel Farage and senior figure Zia Yusuf. It includes immediate detention of all individuals arriving illegally, such as via small boats across the English Channel, and deportation to countries including Afghanistan, Eritrea, and Iran.

Under the proposal, £2 billion of the £10 billion estimated cost would be allocated to secure return agreements with these countries. Yusuf stated that £2 billion is a “significant amount” for nations like Afghanistan and Eritrea, which are top countries of origin for boat arrivals.

The UK government has indicated openness to return agreements with Afghanistan and Eritrea. A Downing Street spokesperson remarked, “We’re not going to take anything off the table in terms of striking returns agreements with countries around the world.”

The plan has faced criticism from various quarters. Legal experts argue it violates British and international laws, while human rights groups warn it could embolden repressive regimes. Opposition parties have condemned the proposal, with some accusing Farage of undermining human rights protections.

Reform UK’s policy aims to address public concern over illegal immigration, with a record 108,100 asylum applications in 2024. The party’s bold stance has gained traction in national polls, intensifying the immigration debate ahead of the election.

The government’s countermeasures include reforming the asylum appeals process and boosting enforcement. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has emphasized the need for practical solutions to the migration issue.

As the election approaches, the debate over immigration policy remains a central issue, with Reform UK’s proposals sparking widespread discussion and controversy.
