AT-KABUL: Five health workers, who were kidnapped by the Taliban insurgents on Sunday morning in northern Faryab province, were released after successful negotiations between the militants and tribal elders.
According to media reports the health workers were traveling from the provincial capital, Maimana city, to Kohistan district in the morning when the Taliban militants stop their vehicle and kidnapped them.
The kidnapped people were serving at the civil hospital of the Kohistan district.
After the news of the kidnapping broke, the district chief of Kohistan Imam Yar Taqwa said that a group of elders have reached to some areas which are in control of the Taliban to negotiate with the insurgents and release the hostages safely.
The elders were successful in the negotiations. However, the provincial administration did not tell that whether the Taliban kidnapped the health workers for ransom or to release their detained fighters or after treating the injured militants.
