Kabul – Former President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, has expressed grave concern over a recent UNICEF report highlighting a sharp increase in infant and child mortality across the country.
Karzai stated that the root cause of such crises lies in the weakening of the education system and the lack of educational opportunities for all Afghan children, both girls and boys. He emphasized that addressing the issue requires urgent investment in education and immediate measures to prevent the continued brain drain of professional and academic talent from Afghanistan.
Reiterating his longstanding position, the former president once again urged the caretaker government to swiftly reopen schools and universities for girls, stressing that only through education can the nation hope to prevent further maternal and infant deaths due to current healthcare and social challenges.
Karzai also called on international aid agencies and humanitarian organizations to act swiftly to save the lives of Afghan mothers and children by equipping and supporting health centers throughout the country.
