KABUL – As India-Pakistan relations deteriorate following the deadly Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, India is intensifying diplomatic outreach in the region. Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met with Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Kabul to discuss trade, transit, and regional cooperation.
During the meeting, Muttaqi emphasized the importance of expanding diplomatic and economic ties, highlighting Afghanistan’s favorable investment climate. Prakash reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
This engagement comes as India accuses Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism following the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. In response, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, and imposed travel restrictions . Pakistan has denied involvement and warned that any alteration to the treaty would be considered an act of war.
India’s diplomatic efforts in Afghanistan may signal a strategic pivot to strengthen regional alliances amid escalating tensions with Pakistan.
