KABUL – Iran is seeking deeper economic ties with Afghanistan to promote regional stability and long-term development, a senior Iranian trade official announced Sunday during a key trade conference in Tehran.
Payam Baqeri, deputy head of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, said Iran is ready to expand trade, invest in Afghan infrastructure, and promote joint ventures in agriculture, mining, and energy. He stressed that shared cultural and historical bonds provide a strong basis for a “win-win partnership.”
Recent figures show Iran-Afghanistan trade surged by 84% in 2024, reaching $3.2 billion. Iran now supplies 25% of Afghanistan’s imports.
Iran’s agriculture minister also called for a joint trade committee and pledged to transfer technical know-how to Afghan partners.
Officials from both sides have reaffirmed commitments to economic cooperation in multiple meetings over the past month, signaling an intensified push for regional economic integration.
