AT Kabul: Iraq and Afghanistan are taking steps toward restoring full diplomatic relations as officials from both countries met in Ankara to discuss the potential reopening of their respective embassies.
Majid Al-Lajmawi, Iraq’s Ambassador to Turkey, received Muhammad Zubair Wadan, Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in Turkey, at the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara. During the meeting, the two diplomats explored avenues for strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on various regional and international issues.
According to a statement released by Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions included the possibility of reopening the Iraqi embassy in Kabul and the Afghan embassy in Baghdad. Both sides emphasized that resuming diplomatic missions would mark a significant step toward consolidating official relations and fostering mutual interests.
“The meeting also highlighted the importance of diplomatic collaboration between the two embassies in Ankara and the coordination of joint efforts on matters of shared concern,” the statement said, underscoring a spirit of “understanding and friendship” between the two nations.
The diplomats reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation, particularly in promoting security, stability, and development in the broader region.
