KABUL – Afghan security authorities have announced the arrest of an ISIS-K operative identified as Saeedullah, who confessed to having received militant training in Pakistan before infiltrating Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing.
In a video statement released by officials, Saeedullah revealed that he entered Afghanistan using a fake ID card under the name “Mohammad”, and underwent ideological and combat training in the mountainous areas near Quetta, Pakistan, where he said “significant efforts were made to mentally indoctrinate” him.
Security analysts in Kabul say the confession underscores the cross-border roots of militancy and points to Pakistan’s continuing role in regional instability.
Military affairs expert Yousuf Amin Zazai said Afghanistan “is neither a source nor a hub of terrorism,” asserting that militants operating inside the country are “funded and trained from the region.”
Political analyst Naqibullah Noori added that the confession “proves that terrorist training centers are based in Pakistan and contradicts Islamabad’s repeated denials.”
Earlier this year, Afghanistan’s Central Commission for Security and Clearance had reported that newly recruited ISIS fighters were being transferred from Karachi and Islamabad airports to training camps in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to be deployed for attacks inside Afghanistan and other regional countries.
Officials say investigations are underway to uncover the full network behind Saeedullah’s recruitment and movement, while additional security measures have been ordered along key border crossings.
