KABUL: A key Taliban commander has been detained by the Afghan security forces in western Farah province, security officials said Wednesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said Mullah Azizullah, famous as Zekria, was arrested in a preemptive operation by the Afghan National Police based on intelligence reports.

The Taliban commander was injured during fight with the security forces in Nad Ali district of Helmand, and arrested while taking away to Farah, said the statement.

According to ministry, Mullah Azizullah was involved in subversive activities in Helmand, Badghis, Heart, Nimruz and Farah provinces.
