KABUL – Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar declared on Monday that Islamabad’s “quid pro quo plus” military response to India’s May 7 strikes now represents the “new normal” in regional conflict dynamics. Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Dar said the four-day exchange following India’s targeting of terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir demonstrated that “India can neither intimidate nor coerce Pakistan,” warning against Delhi’s pursuit of “limited war under the nuclear threshold.”
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its rights under the Indus Water Treaty and vowed to pursue India’s alleged violations through international legal channels. He reiterated that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on a “just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute” and emphasized Pakistan’s readiness for peaceful cooperation with all neighbors, including India.
Highlighting a shift toward regional diplomacy, Dar revealed that Pakistan, China, and Bangladesh have established a trilateral cooperation mechanism, while Islamabad has also reset ties with Afghanistan through joint efforts with Beijing. He confirmed that Pakistan has agreed to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan and urged Kabul’s interim government to prevent its soil from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
