Pakistani officials have called for urgent international cooperation to combat the use of social media by terrorist groups. Senator Talal Chaudhry and Barrister Aqeel Malik warned that extremists like TTP, ISKP, BLA, and BLF are actively using platforms such as X, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram for recruitment and propaganda.
Chaudhry stressed Pakistan’s heavy sacrifices in fighting terrorism and warned of the risks if global inaction continues. Officials reported identifying 481 extremist accounts and criticized tech companies for failing to act swiftly. They urged major platforms to open offices in Pakistan to improve coordination.
Highlighting regional instability after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, they called digital counter-terrorism a shared global responsibility. “We don’t oppose free speech—only its abuse by terrorists,” Chaudhry said.
