KABUL – A coordinated Taliban ambush on a Pakistani military convoy near the Afghan border has left 30 people dead following intense fighting on Wednesday. The attack targeted security forces in the volatile Orakzai district of northwestern Pakistan.
The Pakistani army confirmed 11 soldiers were killed, including two senior officers identified as Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Arif and Major Tayyab Rahat. Military officials said 19 Taliban fighters were also killed in the exchange of fire.
The Pakistan Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the assault. According to security officials, the militants first detonated a roadside bomb before opening fire on the military convoy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their service and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. The attack represents one of the deadliest incidents for Pakistani forces this year amid rising militant violence in the border regions.
