KABUL – U.S. President Donald Trump has declared he will intervene to resolve escalating border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following his brokering of a Gaza ceasefire. Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to Middle East peace talks, Trump stated, “I hear there’s a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I’ll have to wait until I get back. I’m good at solving wars.”
The announcement comes amid some of the deadliest fighting since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover, with Pakistan reporting 23 soldiers killed and Afghan authorities claiming 58 Pakistani casualties. The conflict intensified after Afghanistan accused Pakistan of airstrikes in its territory.
Trump’s mediation pledge coincides with his attendance at today’s Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit, where Pakistani leadership is expected to be present. This marks the latest in what Trump calls “eight wars” he has resolved, though regional powers have previously disputed his claims of conflict resolution.
