KABUL – In a joint statement released today, leaders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) urged the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, emphasizing the need to respect human rights and intensify efforts against terrorism and drug trafficking.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov highlighted the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan, stating that his country supports effective measures and assistance to help Afghanistan achieve sustainable development and security. He emphasized the significance of high-level political coordination and cooperation in addressing regional threats and challenges.
The OTS leaders called upon their foreign ministers to continuously monitor the situation in Afghanistan and advocated for sustained international engagement to ensure a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. They encouraged the formation of a representative government that reflects the diversity of the Afghan nation and called for respect for human rights, including the protection and guarantee of the fundamental rights of all Afghan citizens without any form of discrimination. The statement also stressed the necessity of increased cooperation and decisive action in combating terrorism to ensure that Afghan soil is not used by terrorist groups to threaten or attack other countries.
In response, the Islamic Emirate expressed a desire for cordial relations with the Turkic states. Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that forming an inclusive government is an internal matter and assured that Afghan soil will not pose a threat to others. He emphasized that Afghans themselves will address domestic issues, considering the demands, concerns, and proposals of the people.
The Organization of Turkic States, established in 2009, includes Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Hungary. The organization aims to foster comprehensive cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries.
