Qatar Urges Global Support for Afghanistan Humanitarian Response at UN Human Rights Council

AT Kabul: The State of Qatar has called on the international community to continue mobilizing financial and technical resources to fully fund the Afghanistan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, emphasizing the urgent need to ensure a dignified life for the Afghan people.

The call was made by Juhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Qatar’s Permanent Delegation to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during an interactive dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan. The dialogue took place during the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

In her address, Al Suwaidi reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast commitment as an active international partner. She highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts in supporting Afghanistan through mediation, humanitarian aid, and high-level diplomatic engagement. She noted that Qatar’s hosting of the UN-facilitated Special Envoys meetings on Afghanistan has played a vital role in building international consensus on key issues.

Al Suwaidi emphasized Qatar’s strong advocacy for human rights in Afghanistan, particularly in promoting the inclusion and empowerment of Afghan women. She underlined the importance of ensuring their rights to education and equal employment opportunities, as well as safeguarding the rights of all segments of Afghan society.

“Afghanistan continues to face multifaceted challenges — from decades of war and terrorism to ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian crises,” she said. “These obstacles greatly impact efforts to protect and advance human rights across the country.”

She further stressed that addressing Afghanistan’s crises requires a multi-pronged international approach that includes rebuilding institutions, maintaining humanitarian and development aid, and sustaining constructive dialogue with all Afghan stakeholders.

The State of Qatar remains committed to its role as a reliable mediator and humanitarian partner in the global effort to support the Afghan people and promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
