AT Kabul: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan called for constructive international engagement with Afghanistan’s interim government during his address at the Tashkent International Investment Forum on Tuesday.
Speaking to high-level delegates from nearly 100 countries, President Mirziyoyev emphasized that fostering regional cooperation with Afghanistan is critical for ensuring long-term stability and economic development across Central and South Asia.
“Now more than ever, it is crucial to engage in constructive dialogue with the current government in Afghanistan,” the president said. “The stability and economic progress of Afghanistan are key to the prosperity of the entire region.”
The annual investment forum in Tashkent serves as a platform for international dialogue and investment partnerships, drawing participation from heads of state, ministers, investors, and global financial institutions.
A delegation from Afghanistan, led by Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi, is attending the forum. The Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed that bilateral meetings between Afghan and Uzbek officials are scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the event.
Spokesperson Abdul Salam Jawad Akhundzada said the meetings aim to deepen economic cooperation and explore new trade and investment opportunities between the two neighboring countries.
The presence of the Afghan delegation at such a high-profile event signals growing regional efforts to normalize engagement with Afghanistan’s interim authorities, particularly in the economic domain.
